having trouble with path

ok i have downloaded java not sure witch version.i use a 64bit processor so i am running windows 64bit.when i try to run the command prompt and type n java or javac it says jvava is not a internal or external command what can i do about this.and remmeber im not to good on a comp!

From the Control Panel select System

Click on the Advanced tab.

Click on the Environment Variables button.

If you have superuser privaleges, modify the System Variables, PATH parameter and include the directory where the java/javac programs were installed

If you don't have superuser privaleges, modify the User Varialbes and add in a PATH parameter that points to the directory.
