hi

this is problem with version compatible between jdk and tomcat

jdk1.4.2_08

tomcat 5.0.28

please install the jdk1.4.2_08 or upgrade

then install the tomcat 5.0.28........

or go with 5.0.30( there is no much difference)

Thanks

Hi..

Even I got the very same error. Before the solution I would rather like to tell what I did that created such an error.

I installed the said version of Tomcat on my machine. I was getting some error while compiling my source code (classpath... servlet api related... still unresolved...). I uninstalled tomcat from my machine. But forget to remove JAVA_HOME and CATALINA_HOME variable setting from the enviornment panel...

And when I again tried to installed Tomcat... I got this (JVM error).

Once I removed these variables from the system. Tommy (Tomcat) installed properly...

Thanks...

You can also check whether the JVM is installed properly on you r machine or not. Sometimes if you install java, JVM is not installed properly and hows error. Check for JVM. You can do it by using this link. http://www.java.com/en/download/help/testvm.xml

Please right click on MyComputer and go to Advance Tab. You will see Environment Variables and remove JAVA_HOME and/or PATH clicking Delete command button and this will sort out the purpose.

After Installing Jakarta Tomcat you can reset these environment variables

Always Install JDK first and then Jakarta TomCat
