I can't delete j2se runtime environment 5.0 update 2 off of my computer, when i go to add/remove programs on my computer and go to remove it it says there was a fatal error during installation. I don't use this program much and it is taking up alot of space on my old computer that dosent realy have alot of space on it to begin with. thanks for taking the time to read this.
Do you see a number with the error message? Most of the time this is a generic machine-specific issue.
This could be either due to locking of a certain file on your system or a corrupt JRE specific registry entry emerging from past failed uninstall/reinstall attempts.
In the first case, do following:
Close all applications that you are running in the background including any anti-virus or firewall. Clean the temp directory under system directory. Now reattempt uninstallation from Add-Remove Programs.
In case of corrupt registry entries, try instructions from:
http://java.com/en/download/help/regkey_addremove.xml
or download/Install Windows/Installer Cleanup utility from:
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;290301
Run the same and remove the JRE specific registry entry.
