Java errors

When I try to run yahoo spades games and log-in, my page freezes up. I am aware that I have to allow pop-ups in order to play, but it completely shuts the computer down, I just received a new computer and it did it so many times that I removed the existing java program and downloaded the newest version. I am afraid I downloaded the wrong one even though it said the download was successful and I have the newest version, I need your help to correct my problem before consulting my computer manufacturer.
