Creating an area cursor

Hi folks,I'm trying to replicate a 1997 experiment using area cursors and can't figure out how to change the hotspot of a cursor from a point to an area. Is this possible without implementing a new cursor class?Thanks!

uhm... what's a 1997 experiment? what's an area cursor? judging by the last of answers i'm not the only one who's got no clue what you are talking about.
