Investigating the Java feild.
I am certainly new to Java. My only related experience is knowledge of word processors and that I was a webmaster for my own website for about 3 years.
I am thinking about learning Java.
Can I be a Java Developer and work from home ?
Games developed with Java certainly are fun. Is Java fun ?
Thanks very much,
Larry

I don't see how that is related.

Maybe.

YW.
Java is fun, Java games are not so much fun. I really don't like the bulky java approach to GUI...
If you are a beginner, try to avoid graphics. Do a small network application, or something which relies on Collections. It's WAY easier to start there than to leap on graphics in the first place.
Can Java be interesting ? I am disabled and would like to do something computer related from my home. Can a Java Developer work from home ?

Good idea :)

That would depend on who is paying for your time. This is not really dependent on Java.

Java can be used to do fun things. Again, this is not dependent on Java, it depends on what you do with it. Is a screwdriver fun? No, but it can be fun to use it to make (or break ;)) toys, furniture, or what have you. Same with Java.
Java is really interesting and the more time you spend on it the more little twists you'll learn. I suggest getting a textbook because I've tried the whole learn from the internet approach but things are just to separated whereas in a text book each chapter builds on the other. The good thing is that you can have an easy reference on hand and if you need to ask any questions there are forums like this one and millions of resources on the Internet.

Programming is interesting (to me at least). Java is "just" my tool of choice to do it. I like it because it is platform-independent and because it allows me to focus on solving the problems I want to solve (instead of, say, memory management for example).

To expand on my earlier answer: there is nothing in Java that would prevent you from working with it from your home. All you need is a decent computer. A good internet connection helps a lot too.

thanks very much............i would like to know if some Java Developers are now working from home.............
As a matter of fact, I am working from home as we speak. Most of the time I work at the office, though, but the company I work for is fairly flexible as to where the work takes place.
sounds great, how flexible ? i'd learn Java code as fast as i could if they would possibly hire me at an entry level position,

Who is they ? You would have to talk to employers to see if they can work something out for you. "They" may be more than willing to allow you to work from home, but you have to find out who will be your "they".
When can you start ?
If you are referring to learning there is no time like the present. If you are talking about a job you will have to find an employer to know when you could start.
Good luck regardless.
