LBS

Hello. I want to develop my PhD project using Java, and its about location based services. I want to know:

1. What is the Java tech. for LBS (for all GPS, Bluetooth, Wireless, and WiFi, etc...). Should I use NetBeans mobility pack? or Enterprise IDE? or else? What is the ultimate Java IDE for LBS?

2. Is there an open source project for LBS in Java? (specially that support inside-building scenario like in a mall).

I read the Mobility Development Center page, but there are loads of specifications there...

Im really new to Java so had no clue about anything! any help will be great. Thank you all in advance.

I would think someone going for a PhD would have more common sense than to crosspost, and think of the possible consequence (wasting the time of those answering with possibly duplicate answers, not seeing each other's answers, thus ticking them off) of doing so.
