What is the difference between JMS and MQ.

Hi,I have installed Websphere6 in my system. Is it possible to create a sample application without using MQseries by creating WebSphere MQ queue and queue factory?.I am not understanding where JMS, WebSphere MQ and MQ series.Thank you
