Installation Wizard Problems

Hi there,

I have tried installing the latest Java EE 5 version on my XP laptop.

Hardware Spec:

mobile AMD Athlon XP 1600+ 1.40 GHz, 256 Mb of RAM

I am currently using the Java Standard Edition 5 SDK for all development having recently removed 1.4.

I get as far as selecting the installation directory, which I leave as the default C:\Sun\AppServer, click the next button and the wizard seems to hang. The first time I started installing it it got further, it got upto 45% through when it appeared to hang. I exited the wizard and it appeared to delete all temporary files. I then tried to re-install but got no further than the selecting of the installation directory. I have tried installing it 5 times since and never got past this point.

I have previously installed version 1.4 and have never had any problems, I tried installing 1.4 again after these problems. The exact same problem occurred when installing this version. HELP!!!!!!

Cannot understand the problem, I have even downloaded the exe file a couple of times. The weird thing is that it got further the first time, which makes me think that some temporary installation files where left behind but I ran XP's Disk cleanup utility and it should have removed any trace of the previous installation.

Any help will be much appreciated.

Take a look at this article, especially productregistry access deadlock section which seems to be likely culprit in your case: http://wiki.java.net/bin/view/Projects/WinHang
