which reader & writer should I buy?

HI everyone,

I have done extensive research about java card reader,writer and software kits. I have found three possible devices. can you please help me to decide which one I should buy:

i think one of the cheaper solutions:

- get a iso7816 reader from ebay or an electronic store (should be about 40 - 60 Eur)

- get eclipse (free) and jcop tools (i think a small fee of 30 CHF?)

- develop your application and test it against the built in jcop simulator

- acquire some sample cards (dont know if ibm still sells jcop cards, but with java card the applet should run on any java card os smart cards)

Thanks.but how do i load the applet onto a card. a reader wouldonly allow to read it in response to AODU commands. cheersH

No. A "reader" (the better name would be "[smart]card terminal") allows you to send APDUs to the card and receive the response-APDUs. What the card does with the data you sent to it depends on the APDU you sent. Some APDUs allow to store data on the card or install an applet. Therefore there are no "reader" on the market which allow to read but not to write to java cards/smart cards.
