Do I need to keep older versions of JRE on my computer

J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 1J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 4Java 2 Runtime Environment, SE v1.4.2_03Are all installed on my computer - do I need them all, or should I just have the last version?

They all have approximately the same capabilities. Unless you know that you need a specific version, older versions can be uninstalled.You might want to uninstall all of what you have and get the current version, Java 5 Update 8

I am using Firefox and cannot find a link for update 8 specific for Firefox plugin. Would you point me in the right direction. Thanks.

The JRE is not Browser specific (only OS specific).

Java 5 U 8 is available from links on java.sun.comBe sure to get what you want, there are multiple choices - JRE, JDK, JKD with NetBeans, etc.

Thanks for the info. I didn't know that it wasn't browser specific. I assumed that a Firefox plugin meant that a special version was made for Firefox. I'm glad I came here.

I did get what I wanted, JRE, and verified that it plugged in to Firefox using about:plugins. And, of course, verified that it installed correctly at Sun.
