Face Recognition Application

I m a student of Computer Science and working on my first project of the career. i have been assigned the project of Face Recognition Application. i have been working on it since one month but i m not satisfied to what i have worked. i m lover of java so i want to implement it in java. i have collected material about reading streams from camera in java, now i m looking for detecting faces in video.

Any one who did work in face recognition kindly guide me to which direction should i go and where would i found the material.
