Has camickr been abducted by aliens?

He hasn't been here in over a month. It would truly be a shame for this forum if he left for good.p.s. - kudos to Michael_Dunn for picking up the slack

Indeed that was the case.

This question was easy to answer. I hope the others are this easy so I don't need to think too hard.

I see that the forum look has changed. Am I the only one who hates that the responses are not left justified with the left border of the box? I find that too many responses require me to use horizontal scrolling to read the entire question or view the posted code. I guess I'm the only person left using 17 inch monitor at 1024 x 768 resolution.

My first impulse was to scoff at your suggestion that there's less horizontal space than before--I mean, how could there be, when they completely removed that right-hand column? But now I think you're right.

The biggest problem is the way the username sits there in its own column, causing the space underneath it to go to waste. The longer the nick, the more ridiculous the waste. Fortunately, I already written a Proxomitron filter that chops off everything after the twelfth character and replaces it with an ellipsis. Now the username column only wastes slightly more space than the Reply button column does over on the other side.

In fact, between Proxo, UserCSS and UserJS (similar to GreaseMonkey, but for Opera), it's appalling how many hacks I have to use just to make this site bearable. But it works a helluva lot better than complaining or "providing feedback". I actually do that occasionally, but it always feels like a totally wasted effort. I did get a response written by a human being once!

I just bought myself a 20" 1680 x 1050 Dell monitor for 750NZD. There was a lot of talk about banding on these monitors, particularly when connecting via DVI but I haven't seen any of that and am VERY happy with it! And I can see lots of code/text without scrolling.

I'm pleased you had a good holiday.

Regards,

Tim

If you could post a [url http://homepage1.nifty.com/algafield/sscce.html]Short, Self Contained, Compilable and Executable, Example Program[/url] that

demonstrates the alien abduction problem, you'll be more likely to get help. And of course, using

the [url http://forum.java.sun.com/help.jspa?sec=formatting]formatting[/url] tags for a welcome back makes it more readable.
