no sound on SuSE 10.1

I have just installed SuSE 10.1, the 64 bit OSS version, and 64-jdk1.5.0_06 on top, but I get no sound anymore, just "Audio Device Unavailable". I have tried to install both by hand and from distribution. It all worked well with SuSE 10.0. I would really appreciate any help, thanks.
Do you have sound from non-Java applications? For example, if you bring up your favorite MP3 player does it work?

I fixed it, by first removing java 1.5 and installing 1.4 systemwide, and then have 1.5 on the side. No clue why it works, but now my 1.5 dependent code have sound.
