Where have you gone, Joe DiMaggio?

Just some (former?) regulars who I haven't seen in a long while:

DrLaszloJamf

bbritta

nasch_

Some theories:

- they're all off fighting wars in Iraq?

- they came down with a bad case of Goldie fever? (highly contagious, btw)

- they're not programming in Java anymore? (*GASP*)

- they never really recovered from the breakup of Donovan and T.O.?

Has ANYONE really recovered over that breakup? Are the Iggles even in the running for Eric Moulds? Will da Blooo Roote repavin' get finished?

Lazslo prolly froze while bicycling. Just wait for the thaw in Ottawa.

I am back. I was here in 2003 as Ares_Man or Ares__Man. Both of which are now defunct, so I had to create a new moniker. Unfortunately, I haven't used Java much recently, so I am not currently as kineticly knowledgeable as I used to be.

LIKE %gumby%

there is a prefix or suffix but I can't remember it. Something like that though... if I am thinking of what you are thinking about.

I think the site has met it's demise.

But I found a google cache version of one of the lists.

Just search for http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&lr=&safe=off&q=%22www.telusplanet.net/public/gbrigley/forumfolk%22

You'll get lots of cached pages.

When I use that link I get zilch. Google cacheing is very strange. Seems location dependent among other things.

Works for me. It listed pages. You have to select "cached" for each one. GumB's name is Glen Brigley.

I forgot about this list. I found a few more names that should've been included in my OP:

silk.m

EvilEdna

matfud

mattbunch

ggainey

I'm sure there's more.

It seems that ggainey was serious when he posted this (reply 43):

I think it was bbritta who killed the Duke system.

Suddenly he just gave away all his dukes in a single thread. It must have been 1000's of Dukes. I haven't been able to locate that thread but I know I got 5 or so.

5 Dukes in those times was quite substantial to get for free. It was about half of what most people had and if you were able to squeeze just 1 Duke out of somebody you could consider yourself lucky.

i remember getting some of those free dukes.

i also remember the time when folks would get angry and irate when a poster didn't shell out the dukes as promised. it was one of those status things and at that time IIRC you could see the number of dukes someone had earned. last time i tried to give some dukes i wasn't allowed to give more that 10 dukes in a single thread. don't know when it started or if it's still the case.

I wouldn't be high up on such lists. My current ratio is about 15 posts per duke. (10500 / 720)

635 in 6078 posts. But it's hard to keep track of the accounting shenangians they seemed to have block assigned everyone with a batch of 30 dukes recently and my numbers haven't added up since I started a duke lottery thread with 80 dukes around 2001 and Sun deleted the thread and confiscated about 50 of them.

Fightin's? You mean like Milton "Mr. Parking Tickets" Street. vs. Fran "The Man" Dougherty on the floor of city council?
