I had this problem with JRE 1_5_0_09 - after beating it to death, I finally got it.
Note that JRE did NOT appear in my add/remove programs list - also it did not appear when I ran the windows install clean-up utility msicuu2.exe.
However, when I browsed to
\Documents and Settings\User\Local Settings\Application Data\Sun\Java
I found a folder named jre1.5.0_09 containing the MSI file which installed JRE perfectly.
I am not sure if everyone with this problem will have the JRE file there, but I imagine that if it's NOT there, placing it there from another system and then running it might also work.
good luck.
I also had the problem "error applying transforms". Thanks to your info I also corrected my problem by going into Documents & Settings, then into user, then into local settings, then application data, then sun, then java, then jre1.5.0_11, then double clicked on the jre1.5.0_11 window installer package. Fixed the problem. Many thanks to this forum, I never thought I was going to fix the problem. Nellie
Hi - Your tip worked when I encountered the problem with Java 1.5, but not for Java 1.6 install.
Instead I found the MSI jre1.6.0_01.msi at:
\Documents and Settings\geoffc\Application Data\Sun\Java\jre1.6.0_01
Note that when I encountered this "Error Applying Transforms" problem, it was with the manual install, to which I had reverted as the auto-download and install had failed, warning me of an Invalid installation source.
Hello my frend.Sorry for bad english first, not my domestic.I need some help about the same problem you handle with sucessfully because I didn't quite understand the instructions from "streigh" of what MSI file exactly could be or where can I get that or what to do with that? Would you be so kind to help me please, tell me what to do first.Thank you very much for possible help.Bye.
After encoutnering this error on Java 1.6.0_01 installation, simply go to the directory:
C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\Application Data\Sun\Java\jre1.6.0_01\
There you shoudl find the file: jre1.6.0_01.msi
The MSI file is a Microsoft Installation file format.
Double-click the MSI file to run the installaiton.
I had the same problem, but with Version 6, following "streigh's" instructions, but changing the version in his instructions did the job. Thank you very much.
I have a theory that maybe someone could confirm or deny, the PC I was installing Java on, had just had Windows Installed. The original default account on the machine was called "User", when the owner of the PC bought it, he created his own account (using his own name) and then deleted the "User" account. I believe that this has led to the problem, the fact that the Original account had been deleted, Java looked to install to it, but obviously couldnt.
Anyone got any thoughts on this?
