Problems entering a java counter onto a site with css and php

Hi,My website is built using php and divs, and whenever i enter in the code for the counter...my website looks completely WACKED......what could be the problem....and the code is just for any kind of counter that is using java......any help would be
um I think you might be on the wrong forum, maybe javascript, unless you are talking about a java applet, then i think there is a fair bit of info, like source code missing to be able to make any attempt to help.
