Plug-ins 1.4.2_03

Hi There! HELP!I do not really know what I am talking about - however, I have had the message:Java Plug-in 1.4.2_03 not properly installed on numerous occasions, looking back mostly when trying to load games - never paid much attention until tonite when I wanted to load a Yahoo game and it would not let me get past the message. To restore my system would not change anything because it has been going on for such a long time. Im running Microsoft XP2, Dell 8400 Series Computer. Has anybody got any simple ideas how to FIX it?
