This is just a hunch but try changing the Virtual Memory size on one of the affected machines and then see if that fixes the problem. If it does then apply the same change to the other systems.

Right click My Computer. Select the Advanced tab. In the Performance frame click on Settings. In the Performance Options dialog click on Change in the Virtual memory frame. Try doubling or tripling the number in Custom size.

Hi,I am getting a similar error when printing. it's weird as it has happended out of the blue where printing was previously working.Does changing the VM size help or have you found another workaround/cause? Thanks,Sean

I don't think it's the VM size, I tried to recreate the problem by lowering the VM size on one of our test systems and could not recreate the error.

Our issue turned out to be an interface problem between:

sun.print.Win32PrintService.getDefaultSettings(Native Method) and

The default printer setting in Windows 2000 (we think also 2003). This is where the exception was thrown..

While we don't know the internals and why it happened, in our case we changed the default printer on the Windows machine and in user Profiles to point to one that worked for our specific print application HP1320N in our case. This problem ceased.

We also found on one of our server there were two JVMs installed and a print driver we had FinePrint pdfFactory was ill on another. (We had three servers total with three separate issues).

Our's too seems to be an issue with the default printer/drivers. Having users print to a different printer solves the problem (so it is the current workaround). We're still trying to track down the exact cause.Cheers,Sean

Does this bug happen only on Windows XP with SP2? Is it possible that Windows XP DEP (Data Execution Prevention) causes this?

Well, I have experienced the same problem in a project where I rollout via Webstart (and even without).

Sometimes at some user desks the Printing process stalls with EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION (0xc0000005) ...

Sometimes not.

It is not reproducible constantly. It happens on Windows 2003 Terminal Server Clients also as on Windows XP (SP2?!). If you restart the program and retry twice or three times the print process. There is a 30-50% chance that even the "bad printer" will produce a print output this is weird.

And I can confirm: There ARE printers that work perfectly without problems.

Greetings,

I am also getting the same EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION error. We are running Windows XP SP2, printing to an HP LaserJet4000N with the latest drivers. What I noticed in our particular instance is that this exception only occurs when printing reports with graphs. All other reports print fine.

Any ideas on this would be a huge help, thanks!

I am trying to get as much information as I can on this bug (id: 6358623). Does anyone have standalone program to reproduce the problem? Did downloading the latest driver help? What printer drivers used causes the exception?Thank you.

I don't kow for sure if these two errors are related, but we are having trouble with Dell machines and video cards. Dell has differences that require different drivers for their video cards. You can go to their web site to download new drivers. Regular card drivers have similar problems to the ones you are experiences.

Check out this linkhttp://www.faqts.com/knowledge_base/view.phtml/aid/16487

as one in many others who have similar problems.

Hi

I am getting the same problem at the moment.

Everytime a user prints a multi page document the VM crashes.

We recently upgraded the application from 1.4 to 1.5.0.5. In the migration process because of some spacing issue with DrawTabbedText, DrawString was used to render Strings to the printer.

Crashes still occurs for single page documents, but not as often.

I have rounded it down to DrawString(AWT), and also tried TextLayout.Draw(AWT). The VM crashes everytime a multipage document is send to printer.

DrawTabbedText(Swing) does not crash the VM, but I there are spacing issue.

Can someone please advice me a work around. Is there a different Draw String function i can use?
