Opens in IE but not in Appletviewer?

I have a applet that opens a dialog box from a frame. This works fine in IE and Firefox but it doesn't work in the appletviewer. Isn't the malfunction supposed to be the other way around? I spent hours trying to figure out where my code was wrong until I ran it in Firefox out of desperation. Can anyone explain what's going on here.
