First I would try out the Test JVM page on the java site. That will tell you whether Firefox is using the 1.5 plugin. The page is here.. http://java.com/en/download/help/testvm.xml

the test page works just fine...another thing I noticed is that in Java Control Panel (Advanced->Applet tag support->Mozilla) the Mozilla checkbox is unchecked...I try to check it and then click Apply but it pops up an Error Windows saying "Cannot change Browser's settings. Please make sure that Mozilla is properly installed on your system or that you have the rights to make the changes." But I have already Firefox installed and am logged in as Administrator...Why is this happening?

Okay good. That means that your plugin is working correctly and the problem is likely to lie with how the yahoo website is attempting to determine your plugin settings. Not something you have much control over.

I don't know much about Windows. But keep in mind that the Mozilla browser is different from the Firefox browser. That is there is a separate browser called "Mozilla" and that may be what the message is referring to. But I'm not certain.

The current Java 5 will only configure IE and Mozilla browsers - not Firefox. This is supposed to be in Java 6. Check the Firefox website for instructions on configuring it for Java.
