J2SDK install on W98 SE

Problem installing Java 2 SDK SE v1.5.0

OS W98 SE.

Downloaded jdk-1_5_0-windows-i586.exe on 16 Nov 04. Size 44986kb.

Clicked the above file and installation started.

Asked to accept license agreement ?accepted.

Msg: Please wait while the Install Wizard installs Java 2 SDK, SE v1.5.0. This may take several minutes.

Status:

Downloading files then get error ?

Error 1606. Could not access network location

http://java.sun.com/webapps/download/GetFile/1.5.0-beta2-b51/windows-i586-sdk/sz150000.cab

Have tried several times with internet access available but cannot progress.

What have I missed or not done/read?

This is a relatively frequent installer error code, see this search list:

You might try to install using the online installer, instead of the ofline. That may get around the problem.

Otherwise you'll need to resolve what appears to be some Registry errors.

Thanks for the suggestions.

Used Norton to clean up registry. (plenty to clear up).

Google search on error code - reinstalled Windows installer.

Tried various other amendments suggested following above search & have now given up with J2SDK for a while as none of this achieved right result.

Online install not an option as only have modem connection but will try this after I get broadband installed in December.
