Appliance device JRE Licensing...

The JVM would essentially just be running my software. The 'appliance' would be just an install of my software on a standard PC running Linux for those who prefer appliances to installing software on their own box. The same software would be available as a standard standalone software package as well (Not sure if that changes anything).I consider the 'appliance' just a service (Buy our PC+software, and we will preinstall the software for you so you don't need to spec hardware) but maybe Sun sees it differently.... Is a special license required for deployment of the JRE on an appliance device? Or is it still free like with a standard software package? I read the download license and there is nothing in there about that so I thought I'd better check. Thanks!

You can get all kinds of opinions here, for free. And if they're relied on as being valid legal opinions, that's what they're worth - nothing.

If you really want to know if you're not in compliance with Sun's license, you will be smart to consult a lawyer who has contract law knowledge.

Just my opinion.
