Hi,

I am using Eclipse3.0 since last 1 month , I have no problems running it

following are the steps I have followed while installing Eclipse

1. Install Eclipse in any Local Drive ( C:\eclipse OR D:\eclipse )

2. create a shortcut on desktop

3. right click on a short-cut and in target text field give following command

<drive-name>:\eclipse\eclipse.exe -data <drive-name>\eclipse\workspace -vm <java-home>\bin\javaw.exe -vmargs -Xmx256M

I also had this problem. It occured because I had an old jdk in my path (Oracle had put it there). I see from your log that the java it found was at the 1.3 level. I believe that Eclipse 3 requires 1.4 which inlcudes the missing classes. I removed the old java bin library from my path and it no works.

Hope this helps.

I do had Oracle client installed in my machine and it was the path problem. I put the required jre path first in th path settings like D:\j2sdk1.4.2_05\jre\bin;C:\Program Files\Oracle\jre\1.3.1\bin;C:\Program Files\Oracle\jre\1.1.8\bin; After adding the jre path required for the eclipse 3.0 first, it is working perfectly.

This is most common problem if you have installed Oracle or similar tools which add their JRE references to your path. As Java will use the first JRE it encounters, it might be picking 1.3 or other set by Oracle client.

Modify your path environment variable and add entry as:

SET path=C:\j2sdk1.4.2_03\jre\bin;%path%

where C:\j2sdk1.4.2_03 is my JAVA_HOME

This should fix the problem.

try setting the -vm cmd line argument to the eclipse.exe,c:\apps\eclipse\eclipse.exe -data %PROJECT_PATH% -vm C:\java\j2sdk1.4.2_04\jre\bin\java.exein your eclipse.bat file.

I faced the same problem. I placed the jre path before oracle path, yet it was not working. The problem got solved after intalling jdk 1.4.1. Even in you trace the jre path is jdk 1.3. So I recommend using jdk 1.4.1 or above.

I also had the same problem. I tried including the jar file for SAX downloader in the class path, but it didn't work. However it worked fine when i moved the standard 1.4.2 jre in front of all other J2RE environments. After that it was working fine.

I use the latest eclipse and have the latest jre downloaded (1.5). eclipse worked just fine until I installed Oracle 9i. I am confused with how to fix this.

I have an eclipse shortcut on my desktop: when I right -click and view properties, the "target" is :

"C:\Documents and Settings\Maria\My Documents\eclipse\eclipse.exe"

I changed this "target" to :

"C:\Documents and Settings\Maria\My Documents\eclipse\eclipse.exe -vm c:\Program Files\Java\jre1.5.0_04\bin\javaw.exe"

but it still does not work when I click on the eclipse. It still trys to read the 1.3 JVM from oracle.

I am not at all sure what to do. Can anyone help?

Hi!

Had the same problem and tried a whole lotta stuff like reinstalling the jre's.

Here is your solution step by step:

1. ControlPanel >> System >> Advanced >> EnvironmentVariables

in the lower window marked System Variables of the dialog box you'll find the Path variables on one line, separated by ';' character

The first one should be the one leading to your jre, followed by the Oracle one etc...

Click on the Path line and click Edit to bring up the editing box. Scroll to the left all the way since the first one is the one you want to change.

Go and find where your 1.5 is and if what you wrote is correct this should replace your first path

C:\Program Files\Java\jre1.5.0_04\bin

followed by the ';' to separate it from the next path.

This worked for me like a charm.

Good luck

D
