Ultra 20 fan control

I am running a Ultra 20 M2 on SuSE linux and Windows Vista x64. The system fan revs at a higher rate on boot when booting either OS but revs down after a minute once in Windows Vista to a point you can barely tell it's on. When in SuSE (Enterprise Linux Desktop 10) the fan never revs down. Is there something I'm missing on the linux side that would otherwise tell it to quiet down?
