software engineering magazines

hi all,

I'm a member of ACM association (a prestigious computer science association).they send me a monthly hard copy magazine called "Communications of the ACM".

the content of the magazine is very interesting and i enjoy reading it in my spare time. However the ACM magazine articles are more philosophical & don't dig to technical details of the IT field.

this encouraged me to search for another -more technical- magazine in the area of software engineering so it help me improve my skills & knowledge in this field.

i searched the net and found some good magazines .but i still hesitate & want you to advise me which magazines are the best in software engineering so i can subscribe for a monthly issue.

thanks

Who was last awarded the Turing Award by the ACM? Wait, here it is:

WTF? Peter Naur won the Turing Award in 2005 for his work on Algol 60?!

Does this mean James Gosling will be up for an award in 2040?

I would suggest Dr. Dobbs.

True- me too i'm fascinated by the Java Technology & believe it was a pioneer piece of software.

probably ,softwares hold by Big organizations like Microsoft & sun are not rewarded by academic & research institutions like ACM.

one reason could be that these big companies are making millions of dollars selling their software :) it won't make a difference for those millionaires to win the acm turing award or not.

I guess I find the ACM too stuffy and academic. Have they ever had an article on

the World Of Warcraft:

http://www.worldofwarcraft.com/index.xml

(Now that's a tasteful web site!)

i don't have time to waist replying to your obscure & ironical posts ! ..

till now i can't understand what you want to say .(may be you have smth against ACM.. or i don't know what's your problem!

if someone serious has a suggestion for a very good software engineering magazine ,i would appreciate pointing it to me.

thanks.

At first I thought you were posting here because you wanted to strut

around a little, smoke your pipe, show off your CACM, but now I see

you have been exposed as a poseur who doesn't know :"waist" from "waste".

And your need to keep replying, any pithy quotations to help us understand that?

I'm only asking because knowledge is a lamp to the blind.

I would have said that too, 10 years ago.

It's since degenerated into a massive collection of advertising and advertising sponsored articles (written to appear to be independent while in fact pushing a particular product).

Same is true for every other IT related publication I've laid eyes on over the last several years (though I admit the number available here is very low).

Yes, the market for solid technical journals has certainly cooled down in the last few years.
