Mirroring a hard disk using a USB external hard disk

Hello,

I need to mirror a hard disk with Solaris 10 using an external USB hard disk .

But this is not my only problem, something happen with the external disk after my first tries and now I cannot read the disk. I need to reformat, add file systems and anything it is required to use it again.

One co-worker suggest me to use SMC console and I can see that I can make a mirror from there.

I am a programmer and my administration knowledge is not my strength.

Can you help me?

First I need to read again the external disk, What can I do? Can I use a Console to format it or my only option is to use commands opening a terminal?

Second I need to mirror using it. Any suggentions?

All comments are welcome.

Thanks,

Bety

just out of curiosity, is this on sparc or x86? - if it's sparc, what brand / model of IO board are you successfully using to mirror and achieve USB2.0 speeds? - jeff

just a follow up post - I have been able to get an adaptec aua-4000b working with my sunblade 150 testbed

speeds are sustained ~10MB/sec for writes and reads on a 300GB USB2.0 external drive with zfs, bursting upwards of ~14-15/MB/sec

since it's only recognized in rmformat, I can only partition one slice of the disk and in this case I now have a 300GB "play area", but for POC, it's all I needed -

did you ever get any other responses to your question? - jeff
