Tape Drive Configuration - Help Needed

I have been working on this one for a few days. Any help/advice would be greatly appreciated.

Hardware

Machine: Sun Blade 2000

Tape Drives: HP Ultrium LTO2 002 (x2) (Inside an L40)

Software

OS: Solaris 8

st.conf uncommented lines:

tape-config-list=

"HP Ultrium 2","HP Ultrium LTO 2","HP_LTO_GEN_2";

HP_LTO_GEN_2 = 1,0x36,0,0xd639,4,0x00,0x00,0x00,0x42,3;

probe-scsi-all reports both drives.

/dev/rmt is empty.

I suspect that the drives are being recognized by the hardware, however, our configuration is not correct. Are we missing anything obvious? If the drives are configured correctly, should /dev/rmt have something in it?

Again, any help/advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Sean

Hello Sean,

probe-scsi-all reports both drives.

/dev/rmt is empty.

Did you reboot with the reconfiguration option ?

Either

touch /reconfigure; init 5

or

init 0 and boot -rv (with verbose display).

The tapes command at the os-level might add the proper device entries as well (but it didn't work very reliable in my experience).
