Migrating the Solaris version

Hi,

We have Solaris 9 with the Sun cluster 3.2 and the Netbackup application is 5.1 MP4, now we are planned to upgrade the Solaris version form 9 to Solaris 10.

Could you please provide me an Idea How to upgrade this?

Hi,

as long as the netbackup application is installed on local storage and the data is on shared storage this is a perfect candidate for the dual partition upgrade.

The steps are outlined in: http://docs.sun.com/app/docs/doc/819-2970/6n57ljhov?a=view

On th passive partition you can safely upgrade the OS and SC and keep your application running on the active partition.

Some people disagree that it is possible to upgrade without affecting cluster look at the following forum

Maybe you should clarify what you mean by "upgrade wothout affecting cluster"?

In your cited thread I was assuming you mean "upgrading a SC _3.0_ configuration from Solaris 8 to Solaris 9 without changing the Sun Cluster software", since you said "touching" - which is not possible, since Sun Cluster uses different kernel drivers for S8 and S9, which means you need to perform a Sun Cluster package upgrade as well.

This thread here is about Sun Cluster _3.2_, which introduced the feature of dual partition upgrade.

Note that also in this case the Sun Cluster packages get exchanged, so you are again "touching" them. The only difference here - you can perform upgrade of one half while the other is still providing the service.
