Error for command...read sector error? Help, please!

I installed solaris on my x86 machine through the cd downloads online. After the installation, it rebooted and tried to load.

I get this error continuously:

Warning:/pci@0,0/pic-ide@1f,1/ide@0/cmdk@0,0 (disk0):

error for command 'read sector' error level:fatal

request block 1364272, error block:1364288

sense key: uncorrectable data error

vendor 'gen-ata" error code: 0x7

any help...please

Same answer as for your post in the other non-Sun forum:

Bad disk drive.Replace it.

If it were a SCSI drive or a FCAL disk, you could boot to single-user mode

from your installation CD's and use format to mark the block(s) as bad.

You can't do that with IDE drives.

Replace it.

hi woms

bad news: its time to check warranty-status of your drive.

to be 100% sure, that the drive is defective, download the diagnostic sw from the manufacturers homepage.

@ rukbat

as the drive is recognized as a generic-ata, the chance for IDE should be >90%.

(sorry, couldn't resist ;-) :-) )

@Jenny,No problem.I agree that the disk might work just fine in a desktop, end-user, OS such as Windoze.Solaris is an enterprise class OS that isn't quite so forgiving.
