Sunfire V100 server

Hi All,

I have experience installing x86 based system Linux and Solaris. I never installed Solaris on Sun servers, so I decided to explore Solaris on sun machines, I have purchased from Ebay a Sunfire V100 server with 512 MB RAM, CD Rom etc. Now I have the sun box without OS installed or unknown if any software installed, Its power up . The question is how do I connect to that machine from windows machine ? Is it possible to connect using LAN cable ?

thanks in advance.

you might try searching for the manual... SunSolve is a great asset to you...

Thanks for the reply, I have the docs, but I don't know how to connect from windows machine. I have only the V100 server box, no cables. What cable I need to connect with windows machine? Do I need to buy any cable(DB-9) or I can connect using LAN cable?

Hello Vinu,

I have the docs, but I don't know how to connect from windows machine. I have only the V100 server box, no cables. What cable I need to connect with windows machine? Do I need to buy any cable(DB-9) ...

please re-read the User's Guide for answers to the above questions.

haroldb was absolutely correct by referring you to the User's Guide, chapter 3 contains the detailed instructions (even for Windows !!!).

Without the DB-9/RJ-45 or DB-25/RJ-45 adapters that come with the server (but weren't included with your second hand system), you have to obtain one or build one by cutting one of the RJ-45 connectors from an ethernet cable and solder a DB-9 connector that fits into the COM-port of your Windows system.

By the way, when you get an answer, please provide feedback and reward duke stars. Without feedback it's not worth the effort to answer.

If you expect that someone does the work for you (by saving you the time to read the manual yourself), I would suggest that you get paid support.

It's really embarassing that haroldb (after posting hundreds of answers) is still at 30 Duke Stars.

Thanks for your reply, this is the answer I am looking for. My first post I did not add the duke star, I need better answer so I added the duke star. I never used Sun box and I never seen any DB-9 connector before. Its easy to point docs, if I have a new system it work according to the docs.
