V240 over serial in ALOM Port

I have a V240 (2x1.5ghz) and I am trying to connect to it using the hyper terminal on Windows XP, but all I get is unrecognizable characters. I have my port set to COM 1 ( using a Cisco crossover cable), 9600-8-N-1 , and it connects, but the just spits out gibberish.

Try a different bit rate. The serial port could be configured for other data rates than 9600. It's rare to see that, but someone may have done that on your machine...

Actually it was a bad cable, but now I can't login because I don't have the default root password
