Noisy V445

Just turned on and installed a SunFire V445 and it is SO LOUD!Does anyone know how I can turn down the FANS to reduce the noise (I suspect the fans are the culprit for the screeeetching here)?

They shouldn't be screeching, but they ARE quite loud. More of a roaring sound though :-)Most of those type servers run loud to begin with and are best put into server rooms to keep the sound from annoying all the users :-)

It is in a server room but the screeching is so high pitched that it is coming through the walls!

If it's truly a screeching sound, I had have to lean towards a hardware failure more than a firmware update! Even at full output, the fans shouldn't make a screeching sound!

Oh but it did fix the banshee in the system :)

Here's some of the firmware release notes:

Fixed in 1.6.4:

6494737 Support H3 Disk On Chip with new device driver

6532121 V215/V245: FIOB.T_AMB status erroneously reported CRITICAL prior to 'poweron' after an AC powercycle

6542978 V445 system fan speeds change continuously at a normal room temperature

Fixed in 1.6.3:

6495353 V445 AC power interruption of less 10 ms causes power drop.

6504307 V445 fan profile needs to be adjusted to reduce fan noise

6507649 Support new Netra 210 SAS Control Board Part Number

prtdiag -v showed no errors or faulty fans! It did screech like a banshee (through walls too) and on installing the firmware update - it did slowly (over 10mins or so) wound down the noise to the general hums akin to the other SunFires...
