Benchmark & Graphs without admin access

Hi!

I'm about to do some performance comparison between pthreaded and mpi'd c-code. I was looking for a simple monitoring tool and found cool tools. However since I can't get our admins to install it for me, I was wondering if anybody knows of an alternative? I tried Tau - which worked nice on the frontend but not on the backend - apparently g++ compiled executables don't work (and I can't get it compiled with CC).

I would be glad even for something simple as generating a computation/wait/synchronisation gnuplot bar chart - anything that saves me some time would help.

many thanks for any suggestion,

John

John,

You might want to try the Performance Analyzer ( http://developers.sun.com/sunstudio/analyzer_index.html) which comes with Sun Studio (SS12 is out now as a free download).

Regards,

Darryl.

Thanks Darryl. I actually started my benchmark with the Performance Analyzer but found it to lack both usable data output and graph display. Maybe I'm mistaken, but I can only make it print some fancy little color bar and get a lot of numbers on the counters set during collection - however I can't get more sophisticated visualisation of the counter data.

What exactly do you want to see? email me at

offline.
