New to the Java platform

I am trying to evaluate whether to use Java as a web development platform for my company. I have done some Java development before but not on the web. Seems like the terminology has been significantly fattened since I last used Java platform. Have been using MS technologies for the last 10 years....

To make it short, I have a startup company and want to use java as a web development platform on debian? What do I need to do to get up and running?
