Meaning of "data-failed" files in queue?

We're running iMS 6.3-1.04 on Sol9.

We're getting a great many zero-length spool files of the form

./tcp_intranet/spool/0D5B75042B43D85F46B07FBF0BFA9D31.data-failed

in our tcp_intranet queue.

I can't find any mention of these in the manual, or online. Does anyone here have any ideas?

If a message comes in partially (the sending system quits, or there's a network issue), we save what we get in a "message_failed" file.If you're getting a lot of them, and they're zero bytes, you may want to get a look at your mail.log_current, and see what's happening. Possible you're being attacked, or have some network issues.

These should get purged after whatever "notices" time period you have set. 4 days is default.
