If this question were only related to Java programming... shouldn't you be asking at a Firefox forum how to create a text editor and a program that calls a compiler?

Anyway, don't be fooled, you need much more than a text area for it to make sense. Syntax highlighting and stuff. The posters idea was to replace an IDE with a Firefox plugin. IMO this is asinine. First, you already have Notepad, so you don't need another incapable editor and not even a browser. Second, Netbeans does a little more than just edit source files. Third, you'd still need a JDK.

@Op. I'm sure that there already are some sites that lets you paste code, and compile.

Ceci:

sorry for this.. i know that this is not a Firefox forum. I know the hard part of it, and i was thinking of it, and the milestone to go.

Ok thanks for you feedback

Kaj:

I will try checking those kind of compilers, just needed to see if possible or not. Because my idea was cracking.

Thanks for you feed back

If you want a myjavaserver.com account, there's a coding test you have to take first, and it does exactly that

I bet BeanShell is involved somewhere

myjavaserver.com also features a remote compiler IIRC. They might as well invoke that instead of Beanshell.

(I didn't take any test.)

So why did you ask about how to create a Firefox plug-in?
