Closures?

So anyone want to guess why the closure thread is gone?

or the "can programs replace programmers" thread

Possible reasons:

1) Somebody felt he was getting beat up (i.e., people were disagreeing with him) and reported abuse.

2) Sun don't like threads that actually discuss or debate an issue. They only want threads that ask and answer "how do I do X?" questions.

3) The server that serves this site has evolved intelligence and determined that those threads were not in its best interest.

Most likely they were both deemed unworthy by a rouge program that wrote another program to delete them - their fate was decided in a micro-second.

a rouge program? Who cares what colour it is? :p

My guess would be someone reported abuse, except that I don't recall any such behaviour there

Could have been deleted by a hyper-intelligent program.

The "closures" thread actually had something to do with Java - the "can programs..." thread did not.

That's right - total quality here at Sun Microsystems.

Oh, right.

Well, for programs, fuschia has the most charming megahertzes.

Well, if you're entering a reply and you press the cancel button, you still get:

A general error occurred.

I'm glad to see that hasn't changed.

But the page numbers at the bottom were my favorite new feature to the forums! This is HORRIBLE!

What are you lot babbling about? Charm is such an outmoded metric! It's all about the greenhouse footprints now. Or something

And we will continue to see this behaviour because it cannot solve its halting problem

And by "new feature" you mean "old feature that got removed and then put back again after a lot of complaining", right?

No, I mean "old feature that got removed and then put back again after a lot of complaining that got removed again".

Alas, cruel fate!

;-)

One that the site admins here wrote?

...That certainly isn't the case.

You should learn not to get use to anything that it actually useful.

It isn't gone, it just scrolled off the first page since it hasn't been posted to recently. See http://forum.java.sun.com/thread.jspa?threadID=5191704

Does that mean it got deleted before anyone got "closure" on the subject?

far more likely. If the opinions voiced don't match the ideas Sun has about closures they'd not want it known far and wide that a lot of people have ideas different from theirs...

They may usually be benevolent but they're still dictators (and that used to be a good thing as it prevented idiotic things from making it into the language, sadly the idiots seem to now be in control given the number of idiotic things making it into the language).

hmm, I find that hard to assume :)

If you're referring to:

Then the thread is still there. At least at the time that I'm posting this.

Don't be silly, I meant a cosmetic program.

That is not a very climate neutral remark.

Incidentally, there are forums specifically for discussing suggested enhancements in future releases etc. on http://www.java.net/ in particular

Why does the link "Read the Developer Forums Code of Conduct" at the bottom of the page not go directly to the relevant page?

Its a shame too coz we were about to figure how to build and program this hyper intelligent machine. But as others have pointed, the site server beat us to it and deleted the thread to deny us of this knowledge- ahh they got us already</shaking fist in air in exaspetion>!

It's also a shame because of the one comment someone made:

"That sounds like machine talk! Burn him!"

Was that really why? I remember that comment and it was like within the first 20 posts out of 220+ and was the only one of its kind... hmm, must the post 9/11 environment.

because that would show a logical way of working on the part of the person creating this site.
