Citing Sources

This is a general question, not related just to Java but all programming in general.

I'm writing a program that includes a large amount of information, things that I have to look up and paraphrase and stuff. So I was wondering, how are the sources cited in programs so I don't get caught with plagarism?

The few articles I've read are very limited and unclear.

Information or source code?

Depends -- mostly on the licence this information is released under.

Information, stuff from the books, articles or encyopedias. Basically, it has a copyright.

I'm just asking, is there anywhere that tells you a correct way to site information, if need?

Actually, my twin brother is an intellectual property lawyer. (I call him the "evil twin"). Anyway, I will not waste your time by asking him. Whenever I ask him a question like this (such as "is it legal to do such and such"), his answer invariably is, "it depends upon who is paying me." The f***ing prostitute.

Well ... I'm no lawyer, but IMHO it should be OK to just cite information and make the source obvious.

I found this so funny that I put it up as an away message on AIM.

So, anyone else with suggestions about citing sources in a program?
