Root Password Troubles

I finally got around to installing my Solaris 10 11/06 DVD. Installation went fine, nothing went wrong to my knowledge. Then, when I booted for the first time, I selected the default choice at the boot screen. Then it gave me some song and dance about a database integrity check and gave me a website. I went to the website (http://www.sun.com/msg/SMF-8000-MY) and it told me to login to the sulogin shell. So I boot up again and it says Root passwordfor system maintenance (control-d to bypass)

so, I type in the password I specified ("root"). Nothing shows up on the screen when I type. Then, if I hit enter, and then type it shows up. So, I hit enter then type "root", then enter again. It spits outLogin incorrect

So, I try typing "root" before hitting enter. Then I hit enter twice. Same thing. Ahah! I'll hit control-b to bypass it. That prompts it to spit out the big error message that tells me what to do once I login. Any ideas?

Thanks

Kyle

The message you got -root password for system maintenance (control-d to bypass)- is normal; you usually get it when fsck detects some issue in the file system, and runinng fsck manually is needed. It is also normal that you do not see anything while typing a password, unlike other OSs where you see dots or asterisks. FYI, you need to type only the root password and hit enter, not the login and password.

After you type the root password, you should get a prompt, which should be a pund sign (#). Then you'll be logged in in single user mode.

it begs the question, are you able to login in multiuser mode as root / root at the console login?if not, I'd start looking to see if you installed Sol 10 on the right disk as what is set to be your boot disk in the eeprom - jeff

Was there any sort of problem during the installation? I mean any errors or the installation was terminated in between?
