DS6.0 and DS6.1

I had installed DS 6.0 on a Win2K3 SP1 server using the native package and everything works fine. I have tried installing the 6.1 patch using the .zip distribution (only one available for Windows) and it looks like it is a completely different package and not compatible with the native DS 6.0 installation.

One issue we have is with the DSCC and 6.1, we don't have any Tomcat servers nor the Sun App server and I am not at all familiar with those products to install them.

Hence I have a couple of questions:

Is it possible to upgrade a native install of DS6.0 with the zip version of 6.1? And if so, can you continue to use the web console installed with DS 6.0 to run DSCC?

If we need to install 6.1 from scratch can the DSCC be run without an App server or Tomcat?

Thanks for any information provided!

You cannot install 6.1 patch using .zip on 6.0 native packages.

Native patches for Windows native packages will be available with 6.2 due in a couple of months, when JES 5 update 1 will be available.

DSCC is only available as a War file on Windows with the 6.1 release. You need an Application Server to use it. You can download and install Glassfish v2 (beta). It is really easy and I've outlined in a blog post how to configure it to deploy and use DSCC : <http://blogs.sun.com/Ludo/entry/deploying_dscc_war_in_glassfish>.

DSCC with 6.0 will not be able to fully manage a 6.1 release (while 6.1 knows how to manage both 6.0 and 6.1 instances).
