Authentication through Active Directory

I'm an entirely newbie about the LDAP

I want to setup a openfire server using LDAP authentication on my client machine while i do not know what does base DN mean and can not pass the connection test. There always comes a error message saying "[LDAP: error code 1 - 00000000: LdapErr: DSID-0C090627, comment: In order to perform this operation a successful bind must be completed on the connection., data 0, vece"

How can i get the base DN?

As a newbie to ldap and Active Directory, I suggest you read the jndi tutorial available at http://java.sun.com/products/jndi/tutorial/ and a brief overview of Active Directory at http://technet2.microsoft.com/windowsserver/en/library/8196d68e-776a-4bbc-99a6-d8c19f36ded41033.mspx?mfr=true
