problem in starting up sun blade 1000

Dear all,

I bought a new harddrive of 73g for sun blade 1000 and when I start up it I get something like that:

boot device: disk file and args:

the file just loaded does not appear to be executable

{0} ok

According to the first displayon the screen, the keyboard is present but I can do anything with it .... Even I tried other keyboards that work well on windows but on sun no reaction at all.

Can someone help and tell me how I can solve this problem?

Thanks a lot in advance for your help,

Are you trying to use this new disk as the boot disk (without installing Solaris in advance !) ?

Is the disk seen with probe-scsi-all (this works for FC-AL disks too) ?

According to the first displayon the screen, the keyboard is present but I can do anything with it .... Even I tried other keyboards that work well on windows but on sun no reaction at all.

Is this a Sun USB keyboard ?

Michael

the disk is FC-AL and new (it does contain nothing)Why do you expect that you can boot from an empty disk ?Boot from a Solaris CD or DVD instead.Install Solaris via the serial console.Get a Sun Type 6 or Type 7 USB keyboard.Michael

thanks for your reply

No I don't espect to boot from an empty disk but I can't write anything to boot from CD or DVD ....

And I can't boot from a serial console as the machine is at my place and it's the only sun machine i have got ......

Actually you suggested to install solaris from a console .... can you please explain more in how ........

Yeh! the keyboards I tried are not sun type but the usb one is compatible even with mac... Do you think the problem is with the keyboard? if yes, I will have a serious problem because i am trying to use KVM switch ...

Thanks for your reply and help

Indeed. There are only few, if any KVMs that work with a Sun. The Sun USB keyboard reports the locale (key mapping), your MAC or PC keyboard won't .

This is a link to the Blade 1000 page in the Sun System Handbook.

I would recommend that you get and read the Sun Blade 1000 Service Manual (Part No. 805-4496).

Actually you suggested to boot a console .... can you please explain more in how ........

Use a null-modem cable and terminal emulation on your MAC or PC and attach to the serial port A ("console port").
