Patch Difference

I am planning to install Sun Studio 11 on the Production Server.

I have already installed Sun Studio11 on my Development machine.

The Kernel Version on development machine is "SunOS 5.9 Generic 112233-08 Jun 2003" where as on Production Server it is "SunOS 5.9 Generic 112233-04 November 2002".

I see a difference in the kernel version. Does it really matter ?

Should I update the Kernel version on Production Server before installing Studio11 ?

Thanks,

Ramesh

112233 is primarily a security patch, fixing security issues kernel panics. You can look up details of the patch at sunsolve.sun.com. The list of differences between -04 and -08 is too long to list here. The current version is -12.

At sunsolve you can also find what patches are strongly recommended for your Solaris version.

A kernel patch ordinarily does not affect your ability to use Sun Studio, except for required patches documented in the Release Notes.
