Newb Help - Installing devices/drivers

Couple questions... Im running Solaris 10 on an x86 system

1) My audio is Realtek High Def Audio (on board). On their[Realtek] site they have several unix based Drivers that are said to work with Solaris... But which ones?

Listed on their site isOthers, Linux(Kernel version 2.2.14 or 2.4), Redhat Fedora core 5, and RHEL4 update 4. Which ones might be compatable with Solaris?

And is it safe to say if one of those work, all drivers for that OS might work with Solaris, too?

2) How do I install a driver? I cant even find a way of entering a Command Line prompt from within the java/CDE desktop.

3) I have a floppy drive, I didnt have it setup correctly in my BIOS before installing Solaris... now it is. However, Solaris doesnt seem to recognize my floppy (works fine on Windows Partition) do I also need to install drivers for this floppy drive?

Thanks

And I cant seem to find any real good online guides to answer any of my questions, and opensolaris.com seems very confusing to find any help.

Thanks again

Syn

"Realtek High Def Audio" doesn't really describe anything.

However that's all the manufacturer bothers to use to describe that chipset.

As for "Others, Linux(Kernel version 2.2.14 or 2.4), Redhat Fedora core 5, and RHEL4 update 4. " ...

the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th choices are obviously wrong -- as they're all for LINUX, not for Solaris (which is a true UNIX ).

Next, if you had downloaded the "Others" file and gone through the README in it,

you'd see that it is also for Linux -- it's a generic ALSA driver source, to be compiled.

Final answer?

Disable the onboard sound and go get a cheap add-on sound card that's on the HCL.

I got my Creative ES1371 card at a local computer swap meet for $US3.00

It was recognized natively when the OS was installed.
