Sunfire X4200 M2 Excessive Fan Noise

We are currently running the Sunfire X4200 M2 and need to drastically reduce the amount of noise produced by the fans. The room that this system runs in is hardly bearable. What methods may be used to dampen / eliminate this sound?

I just got a ultra 40 m2 workstation and when i first cranked it up it sounded like a jet engine.But after 24 hours of running I can barely hear it.How long have they been running?If only an hour or 2 then I'm sure that will go away after 24 hours.

The system has been in place for a long time. Now it has become my responsibility to look for solutions. Also, I believe that the fans run at full pace regardless of workload.

ok just thought you may have just started it up for the first time since this was your first post.

i am no help otherwise but just do not seem to get replies in this forum so couldn't help but offer my opinion in case you had just gotten the servers.

I'm wondering if it's a temperature sensor...

normally the fans spin up max initially but then should slow down once temperature is back within the acceptable range

check the handbooks on sunsolve and see if there are any recommendations there, otherwise, if it's new, contact USA4SUN and see what they have to say about it -

At home I'm getting an Xrack pro for my X2200 M2. Which is really loud.

For my Ultra 20 (which is moderately loud) I'm buying Zalman fans (case, GPU and CPU) and insulation for the case from quietpcusa.com . I'm not sure the insulation would work in the server but the Zalman fans are made for various chips including AMD Opterons. They're supposed to be super efficient and ultra-quiet. When I've installed mine I'll post back here my results including temperature stats etc.

I have tinnitus so I'm trying to reduce the amount of excess noise around me.
