Broadcom NetXtreme II GbE card
Hi.
We have a Dell 1950 from last August that we need to install Solaris 10 on. It has a Broadcom NetXtreme II Gigabit Ethernet network card in it and is attached to a gigabit switch. We have the latest drivers for the Broadcom NetXtreme II card installed on the server.
After installing Solaris 10, installing the NIC driver, and configuring the network, the server is rebooted and the following messages related to the NIC card come up:
Broadcom NetXtreme II Gigabit Ethernet Driver v3.0.0
NOTICE: Broadcom - bnx0, BCM5708 device with F/W Ver1080000 is initialized.
bnx0 Copper link is Up (1000 Mbps, Full Duplex, Flow Control is OFF).
NOTICE: Broadcom - bnx1, BCM5708 device with F/W Ver1080000 is initialized.
However, when working on the server it seemed very slow to transfer files across the network.
The output of dladm show-dev is as follows:
root@servername:~ #dladm show-dev
bnx0 link: unknown speed: 1 Mbps duplex: unknown
bnx1 link: unknown speed: 0 Mbps duplex: unknown
As far as I know, this means the card is only functioning at 1 Mbps instead of it's gigabit capability. Is this correct?
Also, I am a little confused as to why the link type and duplex are listed as unknown.
The port on the switch has been checked to make sure it is functioning properly (another server was plugged into it and it worked fine), and the cable has been checked (we plugged this server's cable into another server and it worked fine).
Normally we get the Intel NIC cards with our servers, and those have always worked great. Can someone point me in the right direction to figuring out what is wrong with our Broadcom card or our configuration?
