New to solaris, Having troubles loading Solairs 10

I am fairly new to Solaris and got Solaris 10 6/06 Developer media kit in the mail. When I attempt to install it on my machine I get an error 28 can not load into memory and goes into a cycle back to the choice of which OS to load.

I have a Dell Dimension 8100 which is listed in the Solaris HCL, I ran the check tool in sddtool and everything came back as compatible. I have 2GB DIMM, 256MB on video card, 200GB drive, and a Pentium 4 1.7GB processor. I added the drive and video card after purchase in spring 2005. The dell service tag is GP0ZR01 if someone would like to look it up at support.dell.com.

However, the drive also has Windows XP Pro on it. I wanted to dual boot but have no problem dumping Windows if needed.

Thank You for any help,

Bill

hmm, I am fairly new to this and I am also having issues with it, but perhaps your issue is caused by not having enough room for both operating systems, try removing the windows XP and then install solaris 10.

Thank You for the info. I found out that my machine was dying as I was working with it. It wasn't "seeing" all the memory I had installed on the motherboard. As I was working with the machine it systematically shut down and died forever.

This is something that I have to admit never happened to me in the past and didn't recognize as it was happening.

On a positive note I DID get Solaris loaded with the memory from this machine on another machine I had sitting around.

Thanks again for your support,

Bill
