Solaris Official Build
Where can I find help on the info in the /etc/release
. Here is what I have for my server now.
Solaris 10 11/06 s10s_u3wos_10 SPARC
Copyright 2006 Sun Microsystems, Inc. All Rights Reserved.

Assembled 14 November 2006.
Is s10s_u3wos_10 a build number just like Nevada build 60? What can I extract from that piece of info? I know it's Solaris 10 Update 3, may be build 10. What does the s in S10s stand for? How about wos?
How do I go about downloading the exact release based on the build number? Is the official Solaris release based on a build in OpenSolaris?
Thank you.

Thats the standard string for Solaris 10 U3.
Standard solaris doesnt have different builds. Theres just U1, U2, U3 etc.
Theres no more information to be extracted.
After that the system can be customised to some extent by varying the packages installed.
And you can install patches.
None of which affects the info in /etc/release.
uname -a will show you the kernel patch installed.

Hi,
would you have the bug number? Is it listed as fixed if you search at http://sunsolve.sun.com/? If so, do you have access to that particular patch? I am afraid that unless you're Sun employee, you can not get next build after official U3. You'll have to wait for U4 (provided the bug was fixed in that release).
HTH,
Peter
