Sunfire V100 disk

Hello - I have an older V100/IDE server, and I am having a hard time determining how large a disk the system will recognize. Sun seemed to package them with 20,40,80g disks when new but I'm hoping for more capacity. Any help appreciated, - Eli

Hello Eli,

unfortunately there is the 28-bit LBA limitation.

Sun seemed to package them with 20,40,80g disks when new but I'm hoping for more capacity.

More capacity yes, but only upto 137 gb. These are "marketing" gb (10^9 byte) versus "real" (2^30 byte).

This is from a proposal (1 September 2000) by Maxtor Corporation

Today抯 28-bit sector addressing provides for up to 268,435,456 sectors or

approximately 268 mega sectors. At 512 bytes per sector, this allows device

capacity up to 137,438,953,472 bytes or approximately 137 giga bytes.
